SATURDAY, August 24, 2019

Big Bird Cropper and Dave Leizear just stopped by with some good size bluefish they caught while tossing Roy Rigs around the Rt. 50 Bridge.  Their largest measured 29-inches and weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz.

FRIDAY, August 23, 2019

With only a couple of boats fishing in The MidAtlantic yesterday, the scales were understandably slow.  The "Gret's Three J's" did have 5 white marlin releases and a small dolphin.
Today is the final day of the tournament.  Ocean City boats are sitting in good positions on the leaderboard, but the final day is always a busy one with movement at the top.  There are  a load of boats out there fishing in less than desirable conditions, but I am anticipating a busy night at the scale.  A 71 lb. white marlin at the top is definitely in the sights of many anglers today!  The bigeyes caught on the "Stalker" on Wednesday were studs and are sitting pretty on the leaderboard.  Wahoo and dolphins?  You never know what can come in.

Weigh-ins are from 5:00 to 9:00 tonight at Sunset Marina.

WEDNESDAY, August 21, 2019

8:45 PM - The scales are ready to close on the 3rd day of The MidAtlantic Tournament.

"Restless Lady II" weighed a 67-inch, 56 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum weight requirement.

"Stalker" weighed two large bigeye tuna, weighing 207 lbs. and 226 lbs.

"Catch 23" had 2 white marlin releases and weighed a 55 lb. yellowfin.

"Give It Away" weighed 2 yellowfins (53 & 57 lbs.)

"Uno Mas" had 10 white marlin releases and weighed a 71 1/2-inch white marlin that tipped the scale at 71 lbs.

"Sea Wolf" was the last boat to the scale and they weighed a 29 lb. dolphin.

TUESDAY, August 20, 2019

On the headboat, "Morning Star", anglers found a fussy sea bass bite, but after a lot of work they put a catch together according to Capt. Monty.  Also caught a dolphin.  Largest sea bass was 18 1/2-inches.

Anglers on the charter boat, "Lucky Break" had a good day catching Spanish mackerel at Great Gull Shoal.  Largest fish was 20 inches.  They caught over 15 in addition to some bluefish.

Last Sunday, Bret Dean caught a 59-inch king mackerel around Big Gull Shoal.  They also had a cobia.

The scales closed on Day 2 of The MidAtlantic tournament and here is what we saw:

"Max Bet" weighed a 67-inch, 53 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum qualifying weight.

"Auspicious" had 2 blue marlin releases, 4 white marlin releases and weighed a 68 1/4-inch, 65 lb. white marlin.

"DA Sea" had a white marlin release and weighed a 68-inch, 62 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum qualifying weight.

"Billfisher" weighed a 71 lb. bigeye tuna and a 51 lb. yellowfin.

"Goin in Deep" weighed a 50 lb. yellowfin.

"Top Dog" had a blue marlin release, 3 white marlin releases and weighed a 33 lb. dolphin.

"FFMD" had 2 white marlin releases and weighed a 66 1/4-inch, 61 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum qualifying weight.

"MR Ducks" had a white marlin release and weighed a 66 1/2-inch, 58 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum qualifying weight.

"Chain Reaction" weighed a 35 lb. wahoo.

"Sushi" weighed an 80 lb. yellowfin and a 24 lb. wahoo.

"Restless Lady II" weighed 3 dolphin (15, 16 & 23 lbs.)

"Give it Away" weighed a 66 1/2-inch, 61 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum qualifying weight.

"Amarula Sun" had 9 white marlin releases.

MONDAY, August 19, 2019

Capt. Monty on the headboat, "Morning Star" said it was a slow pick on black sea bass but a school of peanut dolphin showed up and it was game on for some.

On the charter boat, "Fish Bound", Tommy Lambert caught a flounder that was just shy of 6 lbs. while soaking a Gulp artificial bait on open bottom, south of McCree Shoal.

Ther are 156 boats in this years MidAtlantic tournament with 94 fishing out of Ocean City and 62 out of Cape May.  Today, 78 boats fished out of Ocean City and 60 boats out of New Jersey.

9:11 PM - The first day of The MidAtlantic just closed and here is what we saw in Ocean City (weigh-ins are also in Cape May, NJ):

The "Chaser" was the first to arrive at the scale and weighed a 108 1/4-inch, 364 lb. blue marlin that didn't meet the 400 lb. qualifying minimum weight.

"Special Situation" weighed a 29 lb. wahoo.

"Maverick" weighed 2 dolphin (22 & 23 lbs.)

"Lights Out" weighed a 70 1/2-inch, 61 lb. white marlin and a 66 3/4-inch, 58 lb. white marlin.  Both hit the minimum size requirement but not the weight.

"Rhonda's Osprey" weighed a 66 1/2-inch, 59 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum weight requirement.

"Sushi" weighed a 68 lb. yellowfin tuna.

"Fish On" had a white marlin release and weighed a 27 lb. wahoo.

"Sea Hag" weighed an 18 lb. dolphin.

"Real Estate" weighed a 33 lb. dolphin.

"Dem Boys" had a white marlin release and weighed a 96 lb. yellowfin.  They also disqualified a 129 lb. yellowfin that they caught because they had they had to pass the rod.  Hat's off for their honesty!!!

"Killin Time" had 2 white marlin releases and weighed a 21 lb. wahoo.

"Game On" had a white marlin release and weighed a 67 1/2-inch, 56 lb. white marlin that didn't meet the minimum weight requirement.

SUNDAY, August 18, 2019

Anglers on "The Bandit" out of Atlantic City, NJ sent me a report that they went 2 for 3 on bigeye tuna yesterday in the Wilmington Canyon.  The bigeyes weighed 175 and 225 lbs.

Charlie Donohue caught 3 flounder weighing up to 3 lbs. and just can't seem to beat out Ben Semiatin who caught a 25-inch, 6 pounder on a strip of squid.  Both were caught at the Old Grounds.

SATURDAY, August 17, 2019

Walt Kamesnik caught a pair of flounder on the west side of the Rt. 50 Bridge.  Fish measured 19 and 21-inches.  Caught on minnows.
