OC Fishing Community Loses Tom Jones
Thursday, April 26, 2018

The Ocean City Fishing Community lost a legend this week with the passing of Tom "Kingbone" Jones. Tom was owner of the "Kingfisher", a big supporter of the Ocean City Marlin Club and would frequently be found at the scales of local tournaments. His obituary is below:

Thomas E. Jones
September 08, 1941 - April 24, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas E. Jones, born Sept. 8, 1941, announces his passing after a long battle with cancer, on April 24, 2018 at the age of 76. Tom (a.k.a. “Kingbone”) will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 56 years, Maureen and his beloved children, Kathy Deppe (Ted), Tommy (Julie), Greg (Heidi), and Michelle Lillie (Jon), and his eight wonderful grandchildren Lauren, Marina, Madison, Alexandra, Kelsey, Elijah, Aiden, and Iris, and his sister Marlene and brothers Melvin and Robert. Tom was preceded in death by his brother Ray as well as his parents Stella Szciecenski Jones and Edward Jones.

Tom was an entrepreneur at heart, working multiple jobs at a young age before co-founding Valley Lighting in 1965. Many of his family members continue to operate the business today building upon his legacy. Tom cherished his time spent on the water with family and friends. He was a prolific boater and deep sea fisherman. On his boat The Kingfisher, Tom traveled up and down the East coast competing in more than 100 fishing tournaments, catching prize-winning fish in many of them. In 2013, the Kingfisher won the prestigious White Marlin Open out of Ocean City, MD and no one was prouder than Tom.

Tom was a member of Jaycees, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus, Cedar Room Club and White Rocks Yacht Club where he progressed through the ranks from Fleet Captain to Commodore and the Ocean City Marlin Club. His professional affiliations included the Illuminating Engineering Society, Associated Builders and Contractors and the National Assoc. of Electrical Distributors.
