MD sets 2017 flounder regulations
Wednesday, March 1, 2017

The Secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, in response to the action taken for summer flounder at the February 2017 Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission meeting, pursuant to Code of Maryland Regulation 08.02.05.12F, announces a change to the minimum size for the summer flounder fishery for 2017.

Effective 12:01 a.m. April 1, 2017, the recreational minimum size for summer flounder is 17 inches in all Maryland state waters.

According to regulation, an individual licensed to catch fish for commercial purposes may not catch or possess a summer flounder that is less than the recreational size limit if caught by hook and line. Therefore, the commercial hook and line minimum size for summer flounder is 17 inches in all Maryland state waters.

Season and Creel Limits established by Public Notice (issued 12/20/16, effective 1/1/17) are still in effect:

The season is open through December 31, 2017.

Recreational anglers may keep up to 4 summer flounder per person per day.

All other rules remain the same.
