We were bottom fishing about six miles offshore when one of my clients suddenly found himself hooked into a lot more than he had bargained for. Because the intended quarry was mostly small fish, my client chose to use a short, light, spinning rod of his own with only ten pound test line, and through the first half of the morning he had little trouble besting any of the seatrout, croaker, bluefish or occasional skate that latched onto the strips of squid and Fish-Bite baits he had dangling from his two-hook rig.
